A word on where he is writing from. He is initiated in the French Rite, not in an American Grand Lodge, and the English articles say so wherever the difference matters — petitioning, dues, regalia and the degree structure all vary by jurisdiction. Where a practice is specific to one tradition, it is named as such rather than presented as universal.
What carries across is the practice itself, and the restraint that goes with it: nothing covered by the obligation of discretion is published here. Symbols, history and regalia explain perfectly well without handing over the ritual, and that line holds on every page — including where it costs traffic.
